Program Note:

Trio for Brass was heavily inspired by Ancient Greek tragedy. The first movement is a regal, yet satirical "parodos," which was an ode sung by the chorus as it entered the stage. Two episodes follow the first movement: the first one is inspired by Euripides’ tragedy, Orestes, where the title character commits a matricide and is then tormented by Furies for his blood guilt. The second episode has a lyrical character and is greatly inspired by Seikilos Epitaph, the oldest surviving complete musical composition. The last movement is a playful "exodus," a final concluding episode, usually sung by the chorus as it exited the stage. The Trio was commissioned by Giannis Koudounas for "The Bell Project.”
